What to Expect During Your Session

  1. A short intake conversation about pain history, problem areas and pressure preferences — be specific, it helps us help you.
  2. Your therapist warms the tissues with slower Swedish-style strokes before moving into deeper work.
  3. Expect slow, sustained pressure — sometimes with elbows or forearms — on the most restricted areas.
  4. Communicate throughout. 'Good pain' is normal; sharp pain is not. We adjust pressure in real time.
  5. Finish with broad soothing strokes, warm towels and post-session hydration. Soreness the next day is common and normal.

Will I be sore afterwards?

Mild next-day soreness — similar to after a workout — is common, especially after your first deep-tissue session. Drink extra water, walk gently, and it typically passes within 24–48 hours. If you have a big event, book at least a day ahead.

How is this different from RMT Registered Massage Therapy?

We are a non-RMT therapeutic spa — we don't issue insurance receipts, and we price accordingly. Our therapists are skilled at deep-tissue technique; if you need insurance documentation or treatment of a specific injury under a benefits plan, we recommend a Registered Massage Therapist. For everyone else, our rates are typically 30–50% lower for the same hands-on time.

How often should I book?

Acute tension: weekly for 2–3 weeks, then taper. Chronic issues: every 2–3 weeks. Maintenance: monthly. Our Yellow Cherry Membership works out to a great deal if you're booking more than once a month.

Should I eat before a deep tissue session?

A light meal 60–90 minutes before is ideal. Avoid heavy meals right before — lying face-down on a full stomach is uncomfortable.

Can I request extra focus on one area?

Always. Tell your therapist at the start — 'please spend most of the hour on my neck and shoulders' is a perfectly valid request.
